MIND: MAYHEM, MISCHIEF AND MIRTH

︎DATE COMPLETED: NOV 2023

︎PRINT, ILLUSTRATION (click here for more)

Mind: Mayhem, Mischief and Mirth is a 28-page picture book I created for my major project, exploring landscapes representing different mental states. The protagonist, a black cat, represents someone struggling to deal with various negative emotions. The secondary character, a fox, serves as the cat’s mentor, encouraging it along the way and providing helpful tips to cope. A white peacock can also be seen in the background in some illustrations, flying silently along with the cat and fox as a metaphor for happiness. and peace.

I ultimately want this project to give readers struggling with mental health issues a feeling of hope, and to help them feel supported and understood.

WILD SIDE

︎DATE CREATED: SEP 2021 ︎ILLUSTRATION, LAYOUT + PUBLICATION DESIGN

A university assignment instructed us to design a publication inspired by a provided artist. My group (Elysia, Fady, Niti) worked on bringing Joanna Braithwaite’s work to life
through writing each article from the perspective of one of her subjects (animals). I was the creative director, layout designer and editor, and the examples shown are taken from my contributions to the publication. We created illustrations based on her art and combined them with photos provided to us by the artist. My aim was to portray values seen in Braithwaite’s work- playfulness, creativity, and imagination.

GIVING TRADITION THE BOOT - THE EVOLUTION OF DOC MARTENS

︎DATE PUBLISHED: JUN 4, 2021

︎MOTION DESIGN, TYPOGRAPHY, VIDEO GRAPHICS

A university brief instructed us to create a video showing the symbolic significance of an object. I chose to focus on the evolution of Doc Martens, from humble work boot, to a staple of alternative youth culture, as I myself am an avid Doc Martens’ wearer, and this topic allowed me to further explore my passion for photo-editing, punk graphics and kinetic typography.

A DIARY FOR US

︎DATE CREATED: APR 2021

A Diary For Us is an online community that shares personal stories and supports women dealing with self-esteem issues, discrimination, and bullying. Users can DM the account or use the hashtag  #adiaryforus to have their story reposted. The visual identity of A Diary For Us incorporates hand-drawn graphics with lined
paper and hand-written type to convey the notion of a personal diary. I used shades of pink and purple to represent feminity and chose a serif font for secondary text to unite all the elements.
